Pregnancy and childbirth, as most mothers can attest, can be frightening experiences, and all you want is to give birth to a healthy child, kicking and screaming.
It’s hard to imagine a situation like this for any mother, but for one woman, it was all too real.

When Lisa Hough published a picture of her daughter Chelsea’s new baby, she also revealed that her daughter had to make an unimaginable choice.
Karson’s grandmother, a mother of three and a nanny of two, claimed he was born with several health issues.
Because of two very unusual traumatic diseases that are not connected in any way, there is no other way to explain what has happened to this precious young boy.

As well as the “hemorrhage in the left temporal lobe,” her newborn grandson was also diagnosed with a rare inherited metabolic disease known as Non-ketotic hyperglycinemia, according to her (NKH).
“His situation is portrayed as severe and would lead him to be profoundly neurologically handicapped — functioning at a 2-3 month old level at most for his lifetime,” Lisa stated in her blog post.

His mother took the unbearably difficult choice to remove him from life support after receiving all of the available information from the medical community.
A painful moment was described in Lisa’s letter when they had to say goodbye to their precious baby.
“While we weren’t ready to say goodbye to Karson, we had come to terms with the inevitable. We were given 10 minutes after withdrawing intensive care and the ventilator and told he would not breathe on his own and to expect his heart to stop within those 10 minutes.”

Lisa, on the other hand, said that “God had other plans” and that she and her daughter experienced a miracle.
A few hours after the ventilator was withdrawn, his heart rate and oxygen levels stabilized, and here we are, 5 hours later, with this miraculous kid who we were told would never breathe, swallow, have gag reflexes, or even live. He is able to breathe on his own without the use of a ventilator.
“He’s gulping down the food. He has made it. “He’s even opened his eyes a few times today,” he says.
Despite the lack of medical or scientific evidence to back this young fighter’s survival, his physicians believe it was a miracle.

“I’m not sure why I ever thought we were so undeserving of a miracle…and I’m not sure how long we have had with him, but we have him now. And now we will take, Lisa stated.
In a final twist, she learned on March 1 that she and her family would finally be welcoming a new member into their family.

“Every day, I am brought to my knees, and just when I think God is done, I am quickly reminded that he isn’t….I have no words for my gratitude and I will praise Him for as long as I have air in my lungs for giving Karson his,” Lisa stated in her letter.
More than 30,000 people reacted to the article bringing the fantastic news that Karson had survived and is now flourishing. Commenters were entirely supportive of the trip from the beginning.
Now that they’ve welcomed their miraculous baby into the world, we wish them all the best.
